We feel citations alone should not be the cause for action. The impact of these injuries and fatalities, although often monetarily quantified, the real damage is done to those who have lost a loved one, or have been irreparably injured, and where it was almost always preventable, is truly invaluable.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), 887 workers fell to their deaths while working on construction sites in 2017, the most falling deaths in a single year since the BLS started its studies of worker fatalities over 30 years ago. We believe that something should be actively driving for a change of this. The Rooftop Safety Alliance was forged in response to these unnecessary losses.
We are not saying this is necessarily happening with any one person’s intent. Often we find that most companies just do not have a clear understanding of what they are required to do. This is by no means a justification of such. This is simply acknowledging that not having an answer, is not an answer in and of itself.
The Rooftop Safety Alliance is composed of like minded businesses who equally feel a change starts here simply with a realization. Whether it’s raising awareness of OSHA’s rulemaking, aiding in workplace implementation of safety programs, or an overall presence in any event based environment where the Rooftop Safety Alliance can act as a subject matter expert and help educate anyone with an interest, we will be there to provide support in one manner or another.
The Rooftop Safety Alliance is a not for profit group capable of providing answers to the common questions of, “why and how?”. Should you have happened to come by our safety focused alliance by way of referral, recommendation, or just plain happenstance, if you have questions or concerns about how to keep your crew safe, we are here and eager to help.
No one person should ever have to pay with their lives to realize something preventable can and is needing to be done. Please reach out to us and let us see where we can help before it happens on your watch.
